When does spring end and summer begin? It turns out it depends. In the Northern Hemisphere, according to the meteorological definition, it is spring from March 1 to May 31. But if you live in the Southern Hemisphere, it’s fall until the end of May. Then winter begins. I live in Southern California, so it’s spring now, with days that don’t know how to be. Yesterday it was 93 degrees. Today it is 72. That’s Fahrenheit, by the way. (For my Australian friends, that’s 33.8 to 22.2.) Months, seasons, weather… ways we organize our days. I have taped several large calendar pages to my office wall, sticky notes colorfully delineating the timeline for the release of my fantasy novel for middle grade kids.
